Margaret Jane McWilliams

Margaret Jane N. McWilliams the daughter of Dr. James & Margaret Jane (Maupin) McWilliams was born June 19, 1890 in Kentucky and died January 4, 1907. Jane N married Dillard C. Anderson and is buried in the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky in Section H, Lot 93.

The Find a grave website has lovely photos of the tombstone.  I find a clue to the nature of the relationship between Jane N. McWilliams and her husband Dillard C. Anderson. Jane died at the age of 17, and her husband Dillard who was age 23 had his name inscribed on the Tombstone as if his life were over as well.  It is quite common for a couple that has been married a long time to inscribe both names on the tombstone but I have rarely seen it done at such a young age.

Dillard Coleman Anderson the son of Thomas Richard & Margaret Francis (Johnson) Anderson was born June 26, 1883 in Madison County, Kentucky and died January 10, 1952 in Madison County, Kentucky.  It is not known at this time where he is buried.  Records do show a second marriage for Dillard and children.

Dr. James McWilliams who was born about 1853 in Kentucky married Margaret J. Maupin in Madison County, Kentucky on November 7, 1877.  Margaret Maupin McWilliams was the daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Maupin.  Dr. James McWilliams is buried in the McWilliams Cemetery, Madison County, Kentucky. He was born March 5, 1849 and died August 25, 1892. Margaret Maupin McWilliams is also buried in the McWilliams cemetery, she lived from June 3, 1855 until August 19, 1890.

Margaret Jane who lost her mother at little over a month of age, lost her father two years later.  When Dr. James McWilliams died August 25, 1892 he left daughter Cleve 12 years old, son John 8 years old and daughter Margaret Jane age 2. By 1900 the three children were living with an uncle Clay Maupin and their elderly grandmother Elizabeth Maupin 1828 - 1903.

I will update as the story unfolds.
